A faster website for visitors

Website speed optimization

Website speed optimization is work that shortens page load times and improves Core Web Vitals scores. We help when a website loads slowly, lags on phones, or PageSpeed and Core Web Vitals show performance problems. We find what slows it down, make the agreed fixes and compare the speed before and after the changes.

What do we analyse?

We compare automated test results with data from real visitors when there is enough of it. We check specific pages, devices and the order in which files load, because an overall score does not explain every cause of slowness.

  1. 01

Content loading, responsiveness and layout stability (LCP, INP, CLS)

  2. 02

    Images, fonts, CSS and JavaScript

  3. 03

Server response, caching and file compression

  4. 04

    Third-party code and plugins

What do LCP, INP and CLS mean?

Core Web Vitals are three Google metrics that show how quickly a page displays its main content, how quickly it responds to a click and whether the content jumps around while loading. Google recommends an LCP of no more than 2.5 seconds, an INP of no more than 200 milliseconds and a CLS of no more than 0.1.

LCP shows how long it takes for the largest visible element to appear, often the main image or heading. INP measures how long a visitor waits between a click and the screen responding. CLS shows how much the layout shifts, for example when an ad block that loads late pushes a button down. Search Console calculates real-visitor data over the last 28 days, so the effect of fixes does not show up straight away.

What slows a website down most often?

A slow website is usually the result of several small causes together rather than one big mistake. That is why we measure first and rank the causes by their impact.

  1. 01

    Images that are too large

Photos of several megabytes that also load on phones, where a version several times smaller would be enough for the screen.

  2. 02

    Too many WordPress plugins

Each plugin can add its own CSS and JavaScript files to every page, even where they are not needed.

  3. 03

    Third-party code

Chat widgets, advertising pixels and tag managers take up the browser's main thread.

  4. 04

    Slow server response

Cheap, overloaded hosting, an old PHP version or caching that is not switched on.

  5. 05

    Fonts and page builders

Several font sets and heavy page builder plugins increase the amount of code.

How do we make the changes?

We measure the starting speed, choose the most important tasks and make sure there is a backup copy or a test environment. After significant fixes we repeat the measurements. We also check that forms, navigation, analytics and other important features still work.

What can't be promised in advance?

We hand over new websites we build once their mobile speed in Google PageSpeed is at least 90 out of 100. For an existing website we do not guarantee a specific PageSpeed score: it depends on the hosting service, third-party code, the theme, plugins and content. Real-visitor Core Web Vitals data takes time to update, so an improved test result does not show up in the visitor data report straight away.

What changes can we make?

Depending on the problems we find, we compress images, fix their sizes and the way fonts load, reduce the number of files that block page rendering, defer non-essential JavaScript and set up caching. If needed, we recommend hosting changes. We fix the cause of the problem rather than just hiding the measurement tool's warning.

How do you speed up a WooCommerce online store?

In an online store, speed matters most on the category, product, basket and checkout pages. In WooCommerce stores it often helps to optimize product photos, reduce the load created by filter and search plugins, and check that payment and delivery plugins do not load their scripts on every page. Code for Paysera, Montonio, Omniva or LP Express is needed in the basket and at checkout, not in every blog post.

We test every change in an online store with a test order, so that speeding the store up does not break checkout or the choice of delivery method.

Will faster hosting help?

It helps when the problem is the server response. If the first byte from the server arrives slowly even on an empty page, optimizing the code will not fix that. If the server is fast but the page is heavy, new hosting will change almost nothing. We measure this before recommending a move. Our managed hosting costs €20/month.

One-off work or maintenance?

A clearly defined speed problem can be solved as a one-off project. If plugins are often installed on the site, ads change, large images are uploaded or features are added, it is worth checking performance regularly as part of maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

How much does website speed optimization cost?

Website speed optimization starts from €250. The price includes an initial measurement, identifying the main causes of slowness, the agreed fixes and a repeat PageSpeed measurement after the work. Work on larger online stores or custom code is charged at €45/hour. We give you the final amount in writing before we start the work.

Can you guarantee a PageSpeed score of 100?

No. The PageSpeed score depends on the page, the device, the server, third-party code and the content, so even the same page can get a different result each time. We agree on specific fixes and compare measurements before and after them. Core Web Vitals from real visitors matter more than the score.

Will speed optimization improve SEO?

It can help, but speed alone does not guarantee higher rankings. Page experience, including Core Web Vitals, is one of many signals Google assesses, and how well content matches the search usually matters more. A faster site is above all easier for visitors to use, especially on phones. So we combine speed work with a technical SEO check and content.

Do you optimize WordPress websites?

Yes. We assess a WordPress site first: we review the theme, plugins, hosting, backups and main features. Slowness often comes from too many plugins, unoptimized images or a slow server, but we find the cause by measuring, not guessing. After the fixes, we check that the site's most important features work as they did before.

What do you need for an assessment?

Send us the website address, a list of the most important pages and a short description of the problem, for example which page is slow and on which device. If you have PageSpeed or Search Console data, add it too. Do not send logins or passwords through a public form: we agree a secure way to share them separately.

Send us the address of your slow website, and we'll start by measuring it.

We reply with a proposed first stage and a clear price. You can also write to us directly:
